The Von Spinister Diamonds

Every good intrigue needs some spectacular jewels attached.  Here, for your delectation is your chance to make your own version of the Von Spinister Diamonds, the first in the ‘Murder and Mayhem’ series from Buns and Balls, especially designed for BOB.

Ingredients

2.5mm double pointed needles.

100g of double knitting wool (we used a discontinued brand – Pingouin, farniente yarn)

 

Recipie

Cast on 60 stitches and split between 4 needles (15 on each)

k1, p1 rib for 10 rounds

Rnd 1: (p2, k11, p2) x 4

Rnd 2: (k1, p2, k9, p2, k1) x 4

Rnd 3: (p1, k1, p2, k7, p2, k1, p1) x 4

Rnd 4: (k3, p2, k5, p2, k3) x4

Rnd 5: (p1, k3, p2, k3, p2, k3, p1) x 4

Rnd 6: (k5, p2, k1, p2, k5) x 4

Rnd 7: (p1, k5, p3, k5, p1) x 4

Heel flap  

 k18, turn, s1pw, p29 (30sts)

Slip unworked stitches onto one needle (30sts)

Row 1: With work facing you: (s1kw, k1) repeat to end of row, turn

Row 2: s1pw, p29, turn

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until 28 rows are worked.

 

Heel cup

 Row 1: k17, k2tog, k1, turn

Row 2: s1pw, p5, p2tog, p1, turn

Row 3: s1kw, k to one stitch before gap, k2 tog, k1, turn

Row 4: s1pw, p to one before gap, p2tog, p1, turn

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until all stitches have been worked – 18sts on needle

k18, pick up 15 stitches along heel flap, using the slipped stitches as a guide.

k30 across the instep (unworked stitches from before the heel flap)

Using a new needle pick up 15 stitches along other side of the heel flap using the slipped stitches as a guide and k9 from needle 1 (N1-24sts,N2- 30sts, N3-24sts)

 

Gussett

Rnd 1: knit

Rnd 2: N1 – (k to 3sts before end, k2tog, k1) N2 – (knit) N3 – (k1, ssk, k to end)

Repeat rows 1 and two until: N1 – 15sts, N2-30sts, N3-15

Continue knitting in the round until foot measures 2” less than desired length.

 

Decrease for toe

Rnd 1: N1 – (k to 3sts before end, k2tog, k1), N2 – (k1, ssk, k to 3sts before end, k2tog, k1), N3 – (k1, ssk, k to end)

Round 2: knit

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until 24sts remain.

Graft toe using kitchener stitch.
